About Partnership

Sirius Academy Sport Partnership

The Sirius Academy School Sport Partnership is one of two partnerships in Hull. It covers the south band of the city and comprises of schools from both the East and West. There are 34 Primary Schools and 6 Secondary Schools in the Partnership, all of these are urban schools within the city boundary. The Partnership has been running since September 2003, and we have had confirmation of funding for the next 2 years. Sirius Academy Partnership consists of:

  • A steering group of key partners from across the city
  • A Partnership Development Manager (PDM) based at Sirius Academy Sports College
  • Six School Sport Coordinators (SSCo’s) based at host Secondary Schools
  • 34 Primary Link teachers based in Primary Schools
  • Auxiliary and Admin staff
  • Sports coaches from across the city
  • 2 Sporting Ambassadors

School Sport Partnership Benefits

  • Support for schemes of work/PE policies.
  • Whole School Improvement (behaviour, attendance, motivation)
  • The programme will enhance the OSHL opportunities for pupils by linking into NGB and SDU schemes as well as setting up partnerships will local clubs and community groups.
  • Opportunities to develop Gifted and Talented within schools and across the cluster.
  • Excellent CPD opportunities via national CPD courses, local Inset and network meetings.
  • The programme will give access to other funding streams for OSHL e.g. Big Lottery Fund.
  • Work with target groups to improve pupil participation in PE, school sport and community clubs.
  • Increase communication with family schools - share good practice.
  • The programme will be developed to meet each schools individual needs identified from the audit.
  • Development of multi-skill clubs and multi-skill academies.
  • Competition Calendar for the Partnership with links to School Sport Associations, County Sports Partnership and National Governing Bodies.

Partnership Aims

The PDM, SSCo’s, PLT’s and key partners will work together to produce, implement and evaluate a 3 year development plan. This partnership development plan will reflect the following national aims:

  1. Increased Participation in High Quality Physical Education: to develop and implement a PE and school sport strategy, as part of school development plans, through working in partnership with key strategic organisations and providers in the area and between the families of schools (particularly around the KS2/3 interface).
  2. Increased Participation in High Quality Out of School Hours Learning: to provide new and enhanced out of school hours opportunities for all young people in the partnership, including out of school hours learning, non-competitive participation and competition.
  3. Increased Participation in High Quality Informal Activity: to increase the number of pupils participating in physical activity outside of the curriculum.
  4. Increased Participation in High Quality Competition and Performance: to provide increased opportunities for competition for a wider audience of participants, providing player pathways.
  5. Improved Attitude, Behaviour and Attendance in PE, Sport and Whole School: to raise standards of pupils’ achievement in all aspects of their school life, through increased participation and improved performance, motivation and attitudes.
  6. Increased Attainment and Achievement in and through PE, OSHL and Sport: to provide training, support and deployment opportunities in leadership, coaching and officiating for senior pupils, AOTTs and teachers.
  7. Increased Participation in Community based Sport and Improved Quality of Community Life: to increase all young people’s participation in community sport through creating and strengthening links with sports clubs, leisure facilities and community providers.
